Against the vitrine

The house does not display its work behind glass. A note on why the salon has no counter.

A vitrine tells a client where to stand. It sets a distance, and that distance is the oldest sales instrument in the trade. We removed ours in the first year and have not missed it.

In its place: a table, daylight-balanced at 6500 kelvin, and a tray brought out only after a brief has been written in the client's own words. Nothing is shown before it is asked for.

The result is slower. Appointments run ninety minutes and often end without a purchase. It is the correct pace for an object intended to outlive everyone in the room.

Nothing is shown before it is asked for.
