The Workshop

Seven cycles

  1. Cycle 01

    Seed

    A 0.3 mm plate of pure carbon is placed in the reactor. Its lattice determines everything that follows.

  2. Cycle 02

    Growth

    Plasma at 3,000 °C deposits carbon atom by atom across fourteen to twenty-two days.

  3. Cycle 03

    Rough analysis

    The crystal is mapped in three dimensions before a single facet is planned.

  4. Cycle 04

    Planning

    Our proportion sheet is applied — 41.2° pavilion, 34.5° crown — even where it costs weight.

  5. Cycle 05

    Cutting

    Fifty-seven facets, each polished against the grain, each measured to two microns.

  6. Cycle 06

    Setting

    Platinum is milled solid, then reduced by hand until the claw reaches 0.42 mm.

  7. Cycle 07

    Signature

    Growth, cut and setting are signed. Any unsigned piece is dismantled.
