Chapter I

Aurora

First light, held still

Aurora began with a single question inside our atelier: how little metal can hold a stone of this weight without asking for attention.

The answer took nineteen months. Each setting is milled from a solid block of platinum, then reduced by hand until the claw measures 0.42 millimetres — the threshold at which the human eye stops reading structure and begins reading light.
